DAANA was born in 2015 from our, Sanjay and Sunita’s, love for cooking, and the joy of giving and sharing.

Our journey started in September 2015 from a 40 ft Shipping Container at Westside Acton Park, Canberra, and it has grown into the beautiful restaurant we now occupy in Curtin since 2016. While DAANA is tucked away in the leafy suburb of Curtin, it is making its presence felt as one of the top dining experiences in Canberra. DAANA is renowned for its delicious South and Regional Indian cuisine. And, in pioneering our 2020 Autumn-Winter menu, Confluence, we pride ourselves.

For harmoniously embracing native Australian ingredients into Indian cuisine, a first for any Indian restaurant in Canberra.

Critics and peak industry bodies have consistently recognised DAANA over the last four years. In 2019, DAANA received top recognition at National level at the Restaurant and Catering Association of Australia (RCA) Savour Awards, winning the Silver Awards in Best Indian/Subcontinent Restaurant Category. DAANA is the first Indian restaurant from the nations capital to receive this top recognition.

DAANA had two award wins at the ACT state level of the 2019 Savour Awards for Excellence, where we won Best Indian Restaurant and the Consumer Vote Award. DAANA won the Consumer Vote Award from other well-known Canberra restaurants such as Akiba, Ottoman Cuisine and Rubicon, who were also finalists. It was the year that Chef Sunita also made the Finalists for ACT Chef of the Year.

The DAANA restaurant was our single and as we matured as entrepreneurs, we looked at what DAANA means to us and what we want to achieve as a business.

Our mission at Daana is delivering unique and fulfilling food experiences with authenticity, originality and with a spirit of generosity.

To this end, in 2019, Daana started strategically diversifying into other food businesses that complement our core offering as a restaurant while adding value to our customers. In 2019, we launched DAANA Catering, offering the Canberra market a unique blend of international cuisines for all occasions.

DAANA Catering has quickly made its mark in a highly competitive market; serving government entities, universities, corporates, small businesses, not-for-profits, weddings, and individual clients. We offer a one-stop-solution for all catering needs, from food to equipment to staffing; we manage it all to suit the needs of our clients.
